Summer readings

For me summer means sea, sun and ……………books!!

I like reading. No, I love reading. It is what makes me happy apart from my family and friends. I am a book warm and I am totally fine with that.

That being said, I am an avid reader all year long, but it is on my vacation when I literally devour books.

I love reading at the beach. I lay on the beach, under my umbrella, after a long swim both tired and happy, and I get lost on my books. I stop reading only to take another dip in the sea and then again I sink into the world of my book.

So if you happen to be like me or at least if you enjoy reading a good book, please take a look at the following list. These are some books that I really really liked!

  • The Incorrigible Optimists Club, by Jean-Michel Guenassia
  • The Savage Detectives , by Roberto Bolaño
  • 2666, by Roberto Bolaño
  • One Hundred Years of Solitude, by Gabriel Garcia Marquez
  • The Secret History, by Donna Tartt
  • The Goldfinch, by Donna Tartt
  • A Dry White Season, by André Brink
  • Rumours Of Rain, by André Brink
  • Disgrace, by J.M. Coetzee
  • Before Night Falls, by Reinaldo Arenas
  • White Teeth, by Zadie Smith
  • Middlesex, by Jeffrey Eugenides
  • Atonement, by Ian McEwan
  • Black Box, by Amos Oz
  • The Bad Girl, by Mario Vargas Llosa
  • Total Chaos, by Jean-Claude Izzo
  • No Happy Ending, by Paco Ignacio Taibo II
  • Murder in the Central Committee, by Manuel Vázquez Montalbán

I hope this summer finds you doing whatever makes you happy!!!

Morning routine

The other day in my bathroom, Saturday morning, trying to get ready to go out with my family, all I could think of was how my routine has changed in just a few months.

If someone, 7 months ago, would have told me that it would come a time that I could be ready to go out in just 10 – 15 minutes I would have thought that his is insane. But things change… Life always finds the way to surprise you…

Since I gave birth to our children our life has changed totally. Having twins is not an easy thing. Even the smallest things matter. Fact is that I am always in a hurry. Things have to be done quickly because there is always a child (or two) waiting.

Therefore my morning routine has changed a lot. Whether is a weekday, I have to be ready as soon as possible in order to spend more time with my babies before I go to my job on time. Or in the weekends, I dress the babies (two babies at the same age, six months, it is not an easy thing, believe me); my husband prepares the things we have to take with us (diaper bag, children’s’ food, etc.) and after that I have to get ready. Really quickly because the soonest we get out of home, the more time we spend outside, the better…

So what I do?

Usually I have already decided what I have to wear from the previous night. This way I don’t have to change clothes in front of my mirror while the kids and husband wait. Most times that is some kind of jeans with a t-shirt or a shirt and flats.

Jeans and Flats

Or a dress with flats.

Dress and Flats

Also my face and make up routine changed a lot. Most days now I clean my face with the Dermopur Gel Nettoyant or Clinique Liquid Facial Soap (type 4), followed by the Clinique Clarifying Lotion 4 and then I use the Clinique All About Eyes cream on my eyes and my concealer Clinique Advanced Concealer. Instead of a day cream, sunscreen and make up I use Clinique Age Defense BB Cream Broad Spectrum SPF 30. After that I apply a little of the Clinique Stay-Matte Sheer Pressed Powder and Clinique True Bronze™ Pressed Powder Bronzer. Then my Dior blush in 829 Miss Pink and Clinique Cream Shaper™ For Eyes in Chocolate Lustre.

And that’s it! I am out the door…

Summer is almost here and all I can think of are these beautiful Greek beaches with deep blue water.

Those hot sunny days at the Greek islands, the feeling of the cold water of Aegean Sea on my skin. Swimming for hours and then laying on the beach with the sun shining above me. And then tired and hungry under a beautiful bougainvillea or a vine, eating stuffed peppers and tomatoes with feta. And the quietness and stillness of the afternoon of those hot summer days, only the sound of the cicadas and nothing else.

And don’t let me get started for the summer nights…

Aaaaa there is nothing like the Greek summer.

And check out this place, Melanopetra at the beautiful island of Nisyros.

Nisyros and Melanopetra

Since there are still awesome things happening to this beautiful country and creative people working, there is hope that, one day, Greece won’t just be the best country in the world for vacations but also one of the best for living.

this is how a brand new day begins…

A deep breath…  And another sip of my coffee.  Let’s give it a try…

Although I have been thinking of this for so long, it’s still difficult.  What should I say, what should I write.  Maybe no one else will read this post,  or even the blog.  But I want to do it the right way.  Or at least my right way…

So, it might not interest anyone else but at least it is going to be the place (my place) for all those things I like, care, love or even the things I don’t like.  And if someone else is going to read my thoughts, then great!  Everyone is welcomed…

And as I write this the first coffee of the day ends.  And my day begins.  A little different from the previous days.  With a new purpose, and a new promise.  I am starting my blog and I ‘ll try to do this blog a nice place for me and hopefully for other people…

So, have a nice day…
